Ankleshwar Industrial Estate was set up by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation in early 70s. This industrial estate is spread over an area of 1600 hectares in close proximity to Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) National Highway No.48 and Delhi-Mumbai Railway (WR) Line. Due to enhanced connectivity Ankleshwar is well known for industrialization, as on date, more than 1200 industrial units, consisting of chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, bulk drugs, petroleum products, engineering, textiles, plastics, rubber and packaging etc. are located in this industrial estate.

Ankleshwar is the largest chemical industrial estate in the country and even in Asia, with a large number of units operating in small and medium sectors, Ankleshwar industrial estate is always prone to industrial emergencies due to human mistakes, natural calamities and technical failures.

Ankleshwar Industrial Association (AIA) armed itself to take on such emergencies by setting up Disaster Prevention & Management Centre (DPMC) in 1995 through Ankleshwar Environmental Preservation Society (AEPS) with the help of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Notified Area Authority (NAA), Ankleshwar and Industrial Safety & Health Dept.

Chronology :

  • 4thApril, 1995 ; Established DPMC (operated in old Fire Station building )

December 2003; Full-fledged new building of DPMC made operational.

DPMC is looking after all the activities of Fire & Emergency Services at Notified Area, GIDC, Ankleshwar like Operation, Maintenance, Administration on behalf of NAA, Ankleshwar and resources for the same is provided by NAA, Ankleshwar as per MoU between NAA, Ankleshwar, AIA and DPMC (AEPS).

DPMC is fully capable to attend emergencies like fire, explosions and gas leaks in Ankleshwar, Panoli, Jhagadia and Valia industrial estates of Bharuch District. It is equipped with all necessary equipment for all types of emergencies and trained personnel. Services of DPMC is also extended to other surrounding areas as and when needed. DPMC tackled emergencies on National Highway when there were major road accidents of fire, toxic release, gas leakages etc. Similarly it successfully manages rescue operations during the time of flood, cyclone and other natural calamities.

DPMC has got a major boost to its spirit when full-fledged new building including staff quarters was made operational in December, 2003.

Govt. of India has granted Rs. 100 Lakhs for upgradation of DPMC under IIUS Scheme – 2003.

• Purpose / Vision to establish DPMC:

Hence a need of such setup (DPMC) with combination of qualified & experienced safety personnel and firefighting personnel was felt to tackle chemical & industrial disasters by team work and collective efforts.
